inquiry
Pass seems too timid for me, ESPECIALLY VUL AT IMPS. I didn't promise anything much, and I like my hand so far. Diamond ace is good, KJx of clubs rate to be well place. Heart doubleton is valuable. Partner will be more than an opnening hand on this auction, so I will make a 3♣ game try. pclayton
You are close to a max 1♠ call; maybe a jack more and you'd jump right? Pard has about 14-16 here I'd say for the raise in the balance seat; since you'll slow bid even a 10 count. I like 3♦; which will allow pard to clarify his raise and possibly get us to a good 3N; plus I really want my RHO on lead. Never thought about this; but I like transfer advances in response to balancing doubles, since it will get the opening bidder on lead. mike777
3D, This must show a max for my 1s bid, will be happy to pass 3nt from p or 4s. Will bid 3nt over a 3h rebid by p.
paulg
Principle of transferring a king in the balancing suit, and now partner's raise gives it back to us, so a game try seems right especially vul at IMPs. There is not a lot to chose between 3♣ and 3♦, except that 3♦ has more upside when partner can bid 3NT, so it's my choice. I think 3♦ must show something like this, clearly not strong enough to bid 2NT/3NT on my own and looking for the magical Qx or better. However, unlike Mike, I would bid a simple 3♠ over a 3♥ response. Cheers p
Free
Certainly NOT PASS!!! Your hand is waaaaaaaaaaaay too beautiful for a simple pass! As Ben pointed out, ♣KJ is probably nice, ♦A is just a trick, doubleton ♥ is always useful when the trumps aren't too high,... So I'll make a gametry. Problem is: in what suit do we need much help from partner? Not ♣ imo. In ♦ he'll probably be short so that's also ok. So I'll bid 3♥. Chamaco
I have played with players who claim that a single raise of pard's 1 spade here is NOT suggesting a strong hand but simply a "total tricks raise", and when they have any better than minimum they will cue instead. However, i will assume here that a raise shows a non-minimum opener, say a good 14+, or a 6 losers hand (since the double was in balancing seat, requirement more relaxed; if it were a direct seat double, I would assume it shows a hand worth a real reverse, either in hcp or distribution). I bid 4 spades. Hard to see a slam here, but Axxx in opps suit is a huge plus.
EricK
Partner was in balancing position so he could be very light for his initial double. Now he is telling me he isn't light. I don't have enough to force to game, but I shall tell him about my ♣ to see if that helps him decide the corrrect level. The benefit of bidding 3♣ as the game try is that it gives partner room to make a descriptive bid below the level of 3♠. Eric
flytoox
4S for me after I figured out who is who. PD has 4card spt in this seq. Otherwise he will cue 2D.
PriorKnowledge
3N. partner is making a mild game try, which i will accept having a max for previous 1S bid. Just in case partner has only 3s, bid 3N. With 4s, partner will correct to 4S. Partner can't bid 2D, because that is a game-force.
joker_gib
Pass is out of the question ! 3♦ seems right !
luke warm
Partner can't bid 2D, because that is a game-force. is this true? i passed and still pass, but it was based on partner's 2s bid when 2d (or 3d or 4d) was available... but if 2d is, as you say, a game force then maybe my pass wasn't correct
han
I don't play 2D as a game force (though it would show a very good hand). 2S shows a mild invitation to game. I can have up to a good ten count here for bidding 1S, so this hand is pretty good but not quite a maximum. I'd try with 3C, I don't expect to get to 3NT. PriorKnowledge
X then q-bid opener's suit is a game-force. With spade support, dbler had choice of pass, 2S, 3S, 4S, or 2D. So 2S = game opposite 7-9, 3S=game opposite 5-6, 4S=game opposite little, and 2D=monster
HeartA
This hand almost qualified for 2S. Passing over pd's 2S is completely out of the question. The only concern is the quality of ♠. I would bid 3D, if pd bid 3S, I will bid 4S. If pd bid 3NT, I pass.
civill
Some extras to pass, but not strong enough to cue-bid 3D;I'll bid 4S!
Fluffy
1♠ was 0-13 to me, so I don´t feel as a maximum and pass now.
