1C is Polish (either a weak NT, or any 18+, or various hands with clubs)

You are playing with screens.

West isn't sure what 2C means... he alerts it, then thinks for a long time, then comes up with one of the explanations in the poll questions.

What do you bid under each scenario?

I'd bid 3H in all scenarios. The opponents are not certain about their methods so I want to take up as much room as possible. Of course I would like a spade lead but not supporting partner is not an option. And 3S is too much.

I would bid 3D if we play that as a mixed raise, but since it is not listed among the options I assume that it is not. I like the method very much though, I think that it is more useful than a fit jump.

That was my "other" in the 3rd case ---where we have 2D for an inv+ heart raise and 3D for the mixed one. In the other two scenarios, we haven't considered using 3D for that; but we might, now

Great question.

In options 1 and 3, there is a significant chance they are having a monumental screw up. I think the way of maximising the chance that they hang themselves is to pass.

It comes down to table feel. Passing is sick, but if I think they are heading off a cliff, then passing is right. Bidding lets them off the hook.

I tried to think of reasons to vary my action, but in the end I just decided to bid 4 on all of them. If they're having a misunderstanding, I'd prefer them to have it at the five-level.

I thought about 3 in all three sequences, but I don't really want partner to go to the five-level when I have such poor trumps.
