Free
[hv=d=n&v=n&n=sak9xhaqxxd82caxx&s=sqj2hxdaqt9xckqjx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] For some reason we didn't end up in 6NT, we even stayed at 3NT tnx to passive bidding with the North hand... LHO leads ♠T and I already see the trouble I'm into. So I'll just try to make +2, and hope nobody makes slam. First of all, our defenders aren't great players.I see the ♥ thread immediatly, so I play ♠A and discard the ♠J in my hand, just to fool opps (my ♠9 is still high). So I'm in dummy and play ♦8 and let it run, hopefully the K falls and I'm home. Bad luck (or is it good since we're not in slam?), it's ♦J. They continue with ♠ which I take with the Q, small ♣ to the Ace and finesse ♦ again. This time it holds so I play the Ace, just in case they are 3-3. Lucky they were split 4-2 with the King in my RHO's hand. So I start thinking some more. If my LHO has ♥K, slam is laydown, so why don't we just give our dear RHO that K and play for an automatic squeeze? Normally, if she would start thinking about discards, it's clear she'll have that K, and otherwise I'll finesse - advantage of f2f bridge  So I just play my ♠s and ♣s, ending in my hand with following cards left: [hv=n=shaqxdc&w=shxxxdc&e=shkjdkc&s=shxdxcj]399|300|[/hv](I discarded ♦T and Q to give my RHO a little bit more support to discard her ♦K, so I'd be sure I wouldn't make the 'finesse' mistake) On the last ♣, poor East was squeezed and I made +3. On the score sheet, many players were in 6NT-1 or -2, some in 3NT+2 or +1, and it was a nice top score! :D However, we have it all to thank to the poor defense, since LHO had 2 chances to play ♥ and break the squeeze. Remark: on the current hands, 7♠ was laydown :D
inquiry
Not that it matters, but if you are going to play RHO for both red kings, a heart back after the diamond eight loses is too late. Win ACE, Play four clubs, then spade queen, and spade to dummy to reach... [hv=n=s9hqxdxc&w=simmaterialhdc&e=shkdkxxc&s=shdaqtxc]399|300|You have won 3S. 4C, 1H. When you lead the high spade nine (your ninth and game filling trick), East is squeezed now. If he keeps the heart king, one diamond finessee, the diamond ace, and your last diamond is tall. Obviously if he throws the heart King, you know what to do. [/hv] As far as bidding, I think 3NT is the best spot. Slap your partner on the back and say "Good job"
