mike777
I will try 3c which is art. and asks for a feature (not shortness). pard will rebid 3s to deny an outside a or k. we should have room for pard to later show shortness option 2 is too ask for shortness first and then start cuebidding. mgoetze
Well, sitting opposite myself, I might bother thinking about slam if the vulnerability were reversed, but as it is I'm just bidding 4♠. ;)
TimG
What's the plan? 2NT is (Modified) Ogust.Modified how? What are our agreements about 1st seat white on red preempts? Do I have a way to follow Ogust with a forcing call below game that agrees spades? Given what might pass for a 1st seat whilte on red preempt, I'd be inclined to just bid 4♠ unless any of the answers to the above questions indicate a viable alternative. JLOGIC
2n. If partner shows a max then cue bid. This will not gt us to all good slams but at least it will get us to some.
jeffford76
Over 2N partner will bid 3C showing a normal preempt (could show good or bad instead) and you can bid 3D to ask for suit quality (2 of top 3) or 3H to ask for shortness. If you bid 3H partner will show short hearts.
Codo
Even opposite Michale (MGoetze) I would not stop short of slam. I have play opposite some yrbs with 6223, so I need to make a try. I try 2 NBT with a good structure over this or 4 ♣ else.
Zelandakh
Since noone mentioned it, what would an immediate response of 4♣ mean?
jeffford76
Since noone mentioned it, what would an immediate response of 4♣ mean? It's a specific suit ask in clubs (as are all the 4-level bids over 2♠). The table result was 6♠ making. Rightly or wrongly I just jumped there, not wanting to direct the defense and thinking that most any first seat preempt would have play. At the other table they didn't open 2♠ and stopped in 4. Fluffy
I agree with shortness ask, if partner has ♦K its easy, but if he has ♣A slam is also favourite (♦J, ♦ finese, ♦ doubleton, ♦1098, ♥K dropping) after we find out he has short hearts, he could even have both!, I supose partner shows heart short with 4m bid, I would just bid 4NT over it, and ask for ♦K if he holds ♣A
