Pretty double dummy problem

This hand came up at our local duplicate tonight and is, imho, a reasonably pretty double dummy problem. You need to make 3nt as South on a heart lead.

Clue:

You can't make it by North

win the heart, play A and a spade. If W wins, he can't cash afford to cash the other spade, so he plays a red card. Assume a heart to prevent you driving out the spade, tho we're fine on a diamond. Lead the diamond J to the K, to prevent E ducking sucessfully. East has to exit a club. Win in hand with the Ace. Cross to the K and play the diamond 10, ditching the remaining club honour. Takes far longer to write than to play:) If East wins the 2nd spade, he's endplayed into leading clubs. Win in hand with the Ace, lead the diamond to the K, win the club in dummy, pitch the club honour on the diamond 10

trivial double dummy

Duck a spade, cash the ace when you are back in, then establish diamonds. East is screwed via a jettison thingy.

Played by north, you go 17 down on a club lead.

you had better be careful how you 'establish the diamonds'. Say W wins the first spade and plays a heart. You win and lead the diamond J...all duck. Oooops.

Club honour over, lead a diamond, E wins and fires a club, which you cannot win in dummy.

LMAO. Ducking establishes diamonds? When I said establish diamonds, that's what I meant.

Win A; lead J, overtaking with K; East wins and returns a club, which I win in hand. Now the A and a spade; East wins the J and returns another club, which I win with the K; then the 10, throwing my last club, and East has to give me the board. There are variations, but I think this basic plan takes care of them all.

I might even make this at the table on a good day. I knew all those years spent on Richard Pavlicek's web site were good for something... http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif

But you had been at the table. If this is shown asa a problem it is much easier.

And don't be sad anyway, most others had need much longer then these smart guys.
