You would have rather defended 3N, but c'est-la-vie. Pard leads Q, declarer wins with A, draws two rounds of trump ending in hand (all following). Small from hand follows with pard playing small and Q from board.

You play udca and don't have to worry about pard holding 8-diamonds at this vul.

Thoughts?

Partner's most likely shape is 2=2=7=2 since he might well/probably would have led a stiff. Moreover this is consistent with S's bidding.

Declarer has 6 spades, 1 diamond, 2 hearts by force and an establishable 3rd trick in that suit.

Thus winning and playing 3 clubs lets him ruff the 3rd, cross in hearts, ruff a heart and return to the good spade in dummy.

Ducking the heart won't help...no competent declarer would burn the spade to repeat the heart hook, even if he hasn't blocked the spade.

I win, and cash the club Q.

At imps, I then lead to partner's presumed J.

I considered the immediate underlead, but there is no gain as far as I can see. If partner has a stiff, he should have led it.

What to do at mps is more complex since -650 will be tied for a zero, thile +100 won't likely be tied for top...a few pairs might play 3N or have some other odd result. What I did would depend on how the round/event was going. If I needed a good board, and I usually do, I'll do the underlead at mps as well.

Don't give the ox a chance to show an even number. :(

we play udca, according to the OP, so he can't hurt me by showing an even number.
