mr1303
[hv=pc=n&s=skq972hk643d8cj62&n=sa83hj52dk63cakq4&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2hp2np3sp4sppp]266|200[/hv] 2H was Ekren (weak with both majors) and 3S showed 5-4 shape with a non-minimum. You get the Q of diamonds lead, which holds and West follows up with Jack. You ruff and cash the K of spades (agree?) East plays the Jack. How do you continue? bigbenvic
I think I need the A♥ onside or the AQ over the King. The danger is that if spades are 4-1 then I'll get tapped in Diamonds and wont get to enjoy 4 club tricks, unless they hand with trumps also has 4 clubs. If I believe East (I never do!) and he has stiff J, then what will a trump to the 8 gain? I can see it losing to the 10 when he had JT tight or JTx and was trying to give me a losing option. If trumps are 4-1 it seems to me to be a false gain, unless he has only 3 diamonds as he can't continue them. If he ruffs the 4th club, he could be endplayed in hearts, his hand would be need Txxx Qxxx QJx xxx. It seems a very specific hand to play for though, and the J could easily not be a singleton. I'm just playing trump to the ace, and a heart to the K.
Codo
My regular partner is surely good enough to falsecard the jack and the hand is more or less an open book for the defenders- espacially for the one with the ace of hearts. So, will I play him for J, Axxx,Axxx, xxxx or for a simple 3-2 break? I love it when he fools declarer, so I play for the finesse and praise him when he fooled me. gszes
Even if we can count 5 spades and 4 clubs we need either a heart trick ora heart ruff to make 10 tricks. If spades break 4/1 we might even need both. I do not see the benefit of playing a second round of trumps and would have started by leading a small trump to the A and leading a hearttoward my hand. Pulling 1 round of trumps takes care of most situationswhere trumps break 41 and the vast majority of 32 trump breaks will notcause us any harm. We need to start trying to get our 10th trick due toconcerns of being forced in the dia suit so by all means lets go after heartsand see what happens. ggwhiz
Either way is a guess, low ♠ to the King or 8 but it's a guess and you can compliment your rho by giving the play some thought after lho plays low. I'm in for shrugging and playing the 8 letting rho know that I think he's capable of this falsecard but you might pick up a "tell" as in a Mona Lisa smile from someone you know well. Not exactly kosher but against friends, bragging rights take priority.
mr1303
Well RHO did have JTx and when I finessed the 8, I was off. Indeed after a third diamond back I was 2 off :-(
