I need 3 and 4 to show real strong onesuiters, so way too weak for anything above 2 ♠. Partner will raise me with 2,5 tricks.

3♠ tells partner that he need not worry about fit, 2♠ does not.

a decent number of "borrowed" 7 count in partners hand give

us a great chance at game. Our suit quality is very good and p

will not want to raise us with hands like x xxx KJxxx Kxxx

so 2s is too weak. 3S should be saved for very strong hands that

are primarily 1 suited (making slam searches easier) and use x

for most other hands. That means at these colors we should

probably bid

and have the anti acid ready if we get x.

I tried 3♠ for the reasons given by Rainer. Partner boosted to 4, and I got a heart lead into:

 

♠8x ♥ATx ♦K98xx ♣xxx

 

I won on the board & played a spade to the T-K-A, and lefty continued hearts instead of leading from his KJx of clubs, allowing me to unblock my AQ of diamonds, cross to the ♠8, and pitch a club on the diamond. Lucky.
