Whatcha doing?
ewj
This is MPs again I assume? No, this hasn't really gone according to plan :(. I double tbh, partner doesn't have to pass...rate to beat it.
kayin801
3♥. Don't feel strongly about it over pass (not sure X is necessary, any plus could be good). But the opponents don't know that we've messed up so I don't see a reason to panic and if LHO is short in hearts we don't necessarily have a great score defending. LHO's competition might suggest 5 hearts with partner and we're dealing with a 3-3 break in a bad situation hopefully. Outside chance RHO was psyching I guess, but I don't feel like catering to that and really that just suggests 3♥.
bigbenvic
Double where are there tricks coming from? I have clubs, partner has the majors and I have an A & QJ in his suits. I'm sitting over Norths points in the blacks so they should only make red suit tricks, I can't see them getting 9. If pards has good shape (stiff D) then he'll most likely bid on. I definitely want to bid but obviously we fixed ourselves by bidding 2♥ and cannot now play in partner's longer major. I guess to bid 3♥ anyway and hope for the best. This is not a normal layout for me. I would not bid 2C for the Majors with that pile of rubbish.
bigbenvic
This is not a normal layout for me. I would not bid 2C for the Majors with that pile of rubbish. Was about to post the same. Also he should rip it to 3♥, I've free bid 2 so he knows we have a fit, plus he's bid on shape not values (a crummy 7 count) so he doesn't have anywhere near the hand needed to beat this. Especially holding 2 diamonds he should know I cant have a trump stack. If my partner doubles and passes 3♦ X with that hand this will get some discussion after the session. 4 points in the majors and only Kx in a minor, 4522 shape, aceless hand, all are reasons to not bid, given he has, he must know to remove the penalty double I've made. nigel_k
It's fourth seat white at matchpoints and he's a passed hand. Defending 1NT doesn't look great and there is a decent chance that 2♣ will hit something in partner's hand or at least drive them to a lower scoring spot. Anyway, what do people think partner has, assuming we're playing with a 40 point deck? If he has more shape you certainly want to be bidding, not doubling.
ewj
2♣ normal on the hand given. Tbh, I would hope that my partner would bid 3♥ if he had 5...I mean I have shown real ♥, I don't class my double as penalties and it's MPs so I'm definitely not passing. Fluffy
passing out with 54 majors all white MPs? in my bible that is a capital sin I dont wanna defend 3♦, so I have to bid, there is a chance partner might have raised himself with 5 hearts, so I take my chances with 3♠ now. Codo
3 ♠ now for Gonzalos reasoning. But how can I recover from my cardinal first sin?
CSGibson
[hv=pc=n&s=sa97hqj3dt2caqj73&w=st6hk54dkj543ct98&n=sq8432ht8762d6c54&e=skj5ha9daq987ck62&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=pp1n(15-17)pp2c(majors)2d2h3dpp3hdppp]399|300[/hv] Partner's inspired balance led to a nice contract. Double dummy the defense can hit it one, but they didn't find the play to do so (which admittedly is not routine for a flight B player).
