barmar
I didn't even know about it until this thread. Anyway, how are we supposed to publicize random features of the forum software?
barmar
For those who don't know what he's talking about (I had to google to find it), when you're in the list of threads you can move your mouse over to the right end of the box containing the topic title, and a little icon with a piece of paper and an up-arrow will appear. Clicking on this will pop up a window where you can view the first few lines of the first or last post of the thread.

Scarabin
Sorry , I did not mean to be critical. Usually when I discover a new feature I find everyone else has known about it for years, and tells me how to use it. I find Topic Preview useful for browsing topics quickly. As for how to publicise, perhaps we could set up a Topic for "new" features which members and administrators could report. Maybe there are no other unknown features but it would provide a central source which new members could browse.
Antrax
I just found out about it thanks to you. On the other hand, I don't typically read forum help pages.

You can click on "Help" below your username in the top right corner, and that brings up the help files that came with the software. it doesn't look like it mentions this little feature. Bbradley62
On a related note, it might be helpful to un-pin the thread "New Forum Software" since it announces the release of, and discusses the features of, the software that was implemented in 2004 and then replaced by the current software in 2010. barmar
It looks like that post is describing the Invision IP.Board software that we've been using for years. 2010 was just a version upgrade, not a switch to new software. It's also been used since then to announce important changes to the configuration (specifically, changes related to voting on posts). Scarabin
There is also a "profile preview" bur I expect everyone knows this since it's visible to signed-in browsers.
