Flem72
Because it was the first one that came to mind. If I were picking from all of them, it would probably be the 1991(?) "Best of the Animals". Not many know ( or, now, care) that in the early days of the "British invasion" the UK was divided Animals v. Beatles, not Stones v. Beatles. I always thought Eric Burden had a perfect rock voice, and rock with good organ is pretty irresistible to me; unfortunately, he led all of them into various addictions and disappeared for several years. Hanoi5
No one has mentioned The Doors? A compilation which includes Light My Fire, Love Me Two Times, The End, Riders On The Storm, Break On Through (To The Other Side) and People Are Strange. Also Gloria but I think you can only find that one in a Live album. Queen! News Of The World, A Day At The Races, A Night At The Opera, and pretty much anything by them. squealydan
Thanks for this list, there are some good tunes here. I really like the Muttonbirds song; a little disturbing, but really sharp. Glad you liked. The Mutton Birds are great. If you haven't already try any of Dominion Road, Anchor Me, Nature, White Valiant, While You Sleep, Not to Take Sides, Don't Fear the Reaper, Queen's English (in short, anything on Flock : The Best of... is a good place to start) And if you like kiwi disturbing, try The Chills - Pink Frost. Shows that it takes all sorts, as I couldn't consider listing Doors songs without having LA Woman front and centre....

wyman
I'm not picking 10 either, so there. Can't pick just one Stones album -- need a multi-volume greatest hits or sthgBorn to RunNevermindThrillerRumoursHotel CaliforniaLegend (surprised i haven't seen this yet)Best of CCRBack in BlackThere has to be a Stevie Wonder compilation that fits this bill as well.Elton John Greatest HitsThe DoorsBon JoviWho's Next Oh, and I'd be remiss to not mention: The Chronic, Ready to Die, Doggystyle, Straight Outta Compton, and All Eyez on Me. The above is a pretty good list, so remember that before you read the following and lose all respect for me. For a complete shift: the last few days I've been hitting the Deadmau5 Pandora station really hard. I have no idea why, but I'm loving this lately. Totally mindless, just a beat -- a soundtrack for my day while I'm working. eta: DMB: Crash? Maybe that's just for people in college around this time, but man do a lot of DMB songs evoke serious feelings of nostalgia for me.
