Yes, another grand decision...

Rebound

Heh heh, only 2 replies and I feel vindicated already. It seems clear to me that by jumping to 7H, you are telling partner that you have diamond shortness. NT is out of the question so 7 must be the right spot. My partner, one of my brothers, pulled to 7NT for the simple reason that he did not wish to consider the meaning of the 7 call. He kept insisting I should just show or deny the king. Grrrrrrrr.

PS: please advise if you are interested in seeing the full hand

no need to feel vindicated, I am not even so sure 7 is right bid.. it all depends upon whether or not 4NT here after a penatly double really was blackwood agreeing hearts. If it was, then if partner makes any grand slam try over your reply, then by all means 7 is correct bid.

However, this is a muddy auction. I see no reason on earth why your partner can not be something like this. Palning on giving 7NT a play if you had diamond King, and 6NT otherwise. No seven level contract here is a good deal on a club lead.

For whereagles: partner's hand - Void-A10x-AQ10xxxx-Axx, so pretty close.

Ben: Yes, 4NT, for better or for worse, is RKB for us in that situation. However, in our methods, he may still have had the sort of hand you describe, planning to place the contract in a different strain despite my assumtion to the contrary. I'm not so sure this is a good thing, however, but that's the way we play. Basically, since he had precisely the hand I thought he would have at the time, I failed to consider other possibilities.

I still think 7H is the correct call.

Thats just a matter of styles, 1 opening gives you a rebid when opponents get to 4/5 in a minor on next round. I myself could never play seriosly with a partner who opens 1 with this (At least by now).

I would had bid 4 instead of 3, but maybe it is a splintesçr with with agreed to you.

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakq74hkqj652dc108]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

Auction:

South West North East

p 1 3 3

p 3 4 dbl

p 4 p 4NT

p 5 p 6

p ???

Note: with this particular partner, 5 shows 2 controls w/ Q, 6 is a king-ask in the diamond suit. So, wadda ya do now?

7 is the clear cut winner, you can pitch club loser on A and it appears like all 4 aces are yours, so he has the A probably doubleton. This hand is a laydown after ruffing some stuff (if you need to that is)
