Codo
Pass is bad, if partner forgot to raise spades with say 3163, but why should he?
SteveMoe
In the old days when 10 HCP were enough to rebid 2N....Well it's a thought anyway. If pard will open xx Qxx AQxxxx Kx I'll pass.If xx Axx AJxxxx Kx we might have 8 tricks, but need a good result in ♣s.How lucky do I feel? With either partner makes 2♦. Unfortunately pard's 2♦ rebid can be wide ranging (up to 17 says Henry Bethe), so I guess I roll the dice and bid 2N. Who knows, pard might not have a min and might really have 3 ♠ cards for me. JLOGIC
I don't believe that 10 points and a stiff small diamond was a 2N bid in the old days. It just seems like bad evaluation. Saying that the 3D bid can be up to 17 is disingenuous, I mean I don't believe 17 is possible but I would probably bid 2D on some 16 counts, but it would be misleading to describe it as up to 16 if it is so rare for me to have 16 that it makes up a negligible %age of the hands I would have. mr1303
This is a clear cut pass to me. I assume, of course, that partner would raise spades with a holding like KQx
ash1968
Imps all vul. JT9xxKxxAQ9xx 1D--1S2D--?? You open some good 11 count but you pass most of them.I am a passer but I am somewhat ashamed to admit the inconsistency of mentioning that I would have opened 1C (an acol and light opening background is my excuse)Cheers, Stephen
lowerline
Imps all vul. JT9xxKxxAQ9xx 1D--1S2D--?? You open some good 11 count but you pass most of them. This can not be a passed hand for me...Opener can have 4♥5♦, but then he will not have 3 spades.I play 2♥ as 3SF/Bourke Relay here. Then opener will bid 2♠ with 1-4-5-3 or 2-4-5-2 and the bidding can end in 2nt. However with a minimal hand with 6crd diamonds opener will bid 3♦ and now you regret that you did not pass 2♦. Vulnerable at imps I will try for game though. Steven
benlessard
I had --AxxKQT9xxxJxx IRL we were NV and I thought my partner pass was obvious and even vul pass is the good bid IMO. I made 6 and It was 3NT +3 at the other table. RHO had Jx and LHO had KT of clubs. This was the last hand of a small tourney that we lost first place by 1VP so there was some commentary on this hand.
