straube
1st chair imps favorable vulnerability you hold... AJT8xxx x Qx Axx You play Namyats. Do you choose to open 1S or 4S? Why? Is this a close decision? Thanks
Hanoi5
I'm not familiar with NAMYATS but I think the singleton ♥ makes 4♠ more acceptable.
MrAce
1♠ for me. I just dont like to open 4 with 2 aces when pd is not coming from pass and my hand is not that impressive, we may belong to partscore and if we have a partscore competition we have the spade suit so i am not even worried as i would if i held hearts. Of course my best reason to open 1♠ is the fact that my hand looks like more of a 1 opener than a preempt.
CSGibson
1♠, anything else seems really random and misleading to partner - the offense to defense ratio is not right for a preempt, and we always have an opportunity to bid spades over hearts later if that's our par. Phil
I like 4. This is a good time for a pressure call - w/r and dealer. For all the times partner misjudges, LHO goes completely overboard and my extra defense just contributes to the carnage.
SteveMoe
1♠ with Mr Ace and Chris, and I don't think it's that close. 2QT, 2DTs, 5.5 losers.Since we own ♠ we are unlikely to be outbid. 4♠ Preempt: i'd expect 7-losers at this vulnerability.Namyats: I'd expect 4.5 losers
JLOGIC
I think 4 is awful (lol, deja vu of another thread but really no other way to describe it from my perspective).

What're we gonna do when it goes 4S x p 5h? are we really going to double now? This is the type of preempt that just stinks, it takes partner's judgement completely out of the question and puts your side in a terrible place. Sure there are times when LHO or RHO oversteps and they get to a bad spot when ur teammates come back with +170 or something good. Is partner maybe gonna take the sac with KQx of spades and a side K, when now you're creaming their 5 level contract or missing out on playing 4S because your partner is guessing. I agree with Justin that 4S is awful, way too many scenarios where you are making life tough for no reason.
mich-b
1♠.For 4♠ I would like to have better offense to defense ratio , better shape , better suit quality (or length).
