Personal considerations .Happen also to you?

I have noted after many years, that the more difficult contract to play are partial.Seem that my mind recognize better the hand when i play for a game or a slam.on the other side i try to reach always the contract also when a trick is missing, but this way often bring to lose more tricks than one.

This is a natural phenomena. If you only expect to lose the lead once or twice, you don't have to plan for what the opponents may do as a counter-move nearly as often. There is far less complexity in the play of the hand if you are making all of the decisions.

Otoh, I have more than once "over-rectified the count".

I suppose the simple answer is that a declarer should always have some thoughts about how to get x tricks, and how to get them before the opponents take 14 minus x tricks. He should know what x is, and he should know what his plan is.

Sometimes this is easy, sometimes it is difficult. But that's why we continue to play, no? I agree that it may well be more difficult when x is 8 than it is when x is 13. Not always, but often.
