I wish I knew how to quit you, GIB

You mean your silly bidding- you have to bid 3- hopefully GIB won't let you stop short of slam. GIB makes silly bids but this isn't one of them.

Ah! But surely we can't blame South for not supporting clubs with a flat minimum and only 3 of them?

North with an extremely-likely double fit and good controls, plus the singleton spade, ought to do something over 4S, but I've no idea what. 5C? 5H? 4NT? How you get GIB to predict this and bid 2NT/some heart raise on the previous round I've no idea.

I think I blame it mostly on the loose description of the 4S call. If West can only have 2s like the explanation says, penalty can be juicier. Perhaps if it simulates with West having 4+ spades it would see greater upside in bidding on.

Also probably there should be a bit looser suit quality requirements for North trying say a 5c call.

Would doubling 2 have been a support double?

No. Support doubles only apply after 1 over 1 auctions, not 2 over 1 auctions. They only apply when one has the option of raising partner's 1 level response to the 2 level, to distinguish 3 and 4 cd support. In 2/1 auctions this double of 2s is traditionally penalty, since one has a forcing pass available.

3, in GIB's system, apparently guarantees four. Of course I considered doing it anyway, but it doesn't seem much of a distortion to pass with a flat 12-count; I would hardly characterize it as "silly."

Yes you can- if you can't raise partner's unlimited forcing bid then don't even open- you have maximum working high card points in the 3 working suits.

"Cue" bidding mess as opponents preempt you out leaving partner in an awkward position- you could have real spades penalty.
