What call do you take over the possible 4♠, 4nt, 5♣, and 5♦ responses. Edit: I was mixing up 2 hands, first position passed on this, not 2♥, rest of auction and hand the same. Quantumcat
I am going to pass (over a suit) - I have been taught when preempted, just get to a sensible spot and stay there, don't worry about the perfect spot.
CSGibson
If partner bids a suit, he is bidding to make vul vs not. Even though your X is take-out, he shouldn't take it out with a flat shape, so he ought to have playing strength. It would be clear to force to slam with a 30 point deck and great controls, the question in my mind is whether to invite grand. I think this hand is good enough to do so.
the hog
Well I would expect my partners to take out my take out doubles. Most hands, balanced or not with 4S and no heart honours would bid 4S and not pass the double. So after my x and partner's 4S bid, I would bid 5H, but would not be that confident. I don't think it is at all that clear as Chris thinks. Perhaps he has different expectations of what his partner would do?
MrAce
I am % 100 with Chris on this one, not much i can add to what he already said tbh....I mean yeah, i also don't look for perfect spot after they preempted heavily but cmon...this hand is way too strong to just DBL and pass, 19 hcp, all prime cards and whatever pd bids we have at least 4 of them + a void in enemy suit.
gwnn
I agree with finding a sensible spot and playing there but in this case that principle would just mean raising to the 6 level, definitely not passing. I'd still bid 5H in case partner is strongish. (he can be, especially if his bid was 5m)
the hog
So I assume you would not bid 4S on Qxxxxxxxxxxxx Well then playing with you I could not/would not double onAKxxxvoidKxxxAxxx 4HX looks like a pretty decent contract.
