Phil
For the last, I think I will give the hand from my partner's perspective: ♠AQ98x ♥AKQ ♦void ♣T98xx 1♦ - 1♠2♦ - 3N*4♦ - ? *Yes, you and I hate 3N, but there you go. What now?
JLOGIC
I'd just bid 5D, my hand is good if partner has a club void but I'm not going to cuebid for him with a diamond void when he couldn't jump to 3D, and I don't want to outline a club lead for the defense. Fluffy
I don't understand 3NT, the proble would be more interesting if we didn't know partner has 8 card suit maybe. 4NT is ridicoulous, and 6♦ also, so there is only one option left. Fluffy
I forgot to mention its matchpoints - does that change your mind? Maybe at MPs passing 4♦ to outscore 3NT is an option
JLOGIC
I forgot to mention its matchpoints - does that change your mind? No. But I am happy partner got us out of 3N in that case since it was probably down, so I guess I'd be less likely to cuebid 4H and would just bid 5D
Phil
Partner bid 4N which I think it is pretty awful - I expected soft cards and a diamond filler. Clearly I don't have solid diamonds, right? I held Kxx xx AKxxxxxx void. 6♠ is interesting and makes - 6♦ needs 3-2 trump. No one bid slam, but they found the club lead vs 4N and beat it one, but 3N= is still a bad board against the 4♠ and 5♦ contracts in the room. cherdano
I would have bid 4♠ instead of 4♦.
Phil
I would have bid 4♠ instead of 4♦. I thought about that too. I've never come across the bid before and I wasn't sure what the nuances were nor how partner would interpret it. I think 5♣ might even be better and get across one of the main features of my hand.
