han
I'd pass, somewhat close to doubling.
gwnn
I'd double, very close to passing.
Fluffy
sorry to say so, but individual with uknown opponents means double is penalty
Quartic
sorry to say so, but individual with uknown opponents means double is penaltyToo many doubles are defined as penalty in that system - it really needs a bit lot more work. gwnn
sorry to say so, but individual with uknown opponents means double is penaltyWell I'd expect partner to pass anyway usually, even if double is responsive. Maybe even in an individual with unknown opponents, partner can pull my x with a void and sometimes (???) with a singleton. With a doubleton yes he should pass. Who knows, maybe he made one of those genius doubles with 3-2-4-4 that you sometimes see on BBO :)
han
sorry to say so, but individual with uknown opponents means double is penalty Then why did you post this in the interesting bridge hands forum? This is not interesting bridge.

MrAce
To feed whiners with complains Bro i hear you about whiners and complainers in forums, i may as well be one of them (will try to improve my attitude after your remark) but Han has a point. Seriously, if DBL is penalty we do not even have much of an option, i would pass then. Which was one of the strong candidates at the first place which became mandatory imo if your DBL disables your pd from making flexible moves. Known or unknown opponents, when one of them opens 1♠ and other one jumps to 4♠ we ( us and our pd, regardless of pick up pdship or experienced pdship) may not know our opponents but we know they have spades, a lot of them, besides the fact that pd implied shortness in this suit and we hold only 2 of them. I don't think anyone with reasonable bridge background or logic will think that we doubled with spades and that it is pure penalty. Unless we are playing in a field/event that we are not belong to at the first place. I know most of the time pd will pass, regardless of what we intended with DBL, no one is really big fan of trying to find a fit at 5 level and even if we find no one is big fan of playing a 4-4 fit at 5 level. But who knows, maybe pd started DBL with the plan of bidding hearts or diamonds or clubs next round, or some minimum wild take out shapes like 0436 etc... Did you bid something other than pass or DBL ? Because you sound like you are not happy with the replies.
aguahombre
I think we could wait a very long time to ever get what looks to advancer like a pure penalty double on this auction. This is posted by a "BOOP" who doesn't believe all doubles are takeout.
