1N

Would suspect many would rebid 2 but that might likley tip off EW to their possible 9+ card fit. Can they make game in ? Too early to tell but my rebid would help them diagnose working values in the round suits. I like 1N if for no other reason it casts my actual length in partner's hand (and his in mine). For all I know LHO will be less bullish about exploring game and less likely to lead a . If partner is very very broke I might just be where we need to be.

Can someone please explain to me what's so wrong with double here? If partner bids clubs I can easily correct to diamonds, and I have adequate support for hearts. And partner just might pass for penalties.

Or he may be broke.

You have 3 hearts, i.e. if you end up playing 2H, you will be playing a 4-3 fit, and have a fair chance,

of going down, bidding 2D makes sure, you end up in your best fit, if partner is broke.

For that matter, you need to beat 1S -2, to be better of, than playing in your own

suit, that translates to makeing 2S your way, good luck.

The king of spades makes it unlikely, that partner has good spades.

With kind regards

Marlowe

Partner is unlikely to have hearts unless he has a very poor hand, pretty much any seven count with five hearts has already doubled, and many double with less than that.

Double is ok, but it will be very hard to do. If partner bids hearts and you correct to 3d, do you really feel like you have bid your hand? If partner has JTx Axxx xx Jxxxx will you feel like you are in a good spot?

And there lies the problem. Pd will expect you to have a good hand when you double and might pass for penalites. However, your hand offers virtually nothing in defense and 1 spx probably makes. So what about 1NT? I don't like that as it doesn't describe your hand. There's every chance pd can provide a spade stopper, but he passed so it would probably be difficult to find the last trick to make 3 NT. As game seems not available for us my bid is 3d, shows my hand and is probably what we can make as well. Puts pressure on op. I'm not too afraid of op. making 4 sp since north couldn't support his pd's 1 sp bid. If my passed pd surprisingly did have something extra he'd bid on, and I'd then bid 3NT. So 3d it is in my book.
