gszes
welcome to las vegas they see you coming a mile away. Every once in a whileone of these bids works and the player that makes it is keeps remembering thatone success despite numerous failures. The other actions (besides pass) are the kinds of things players do when they feelthey are doomed to get a poor score anyway so why not try and get a great score with not much downside. It certainly adds a bit of flash to the MP sheet but the raresuccess is generally not worth straining partnership relations unless you are bothdoing the same kinds of things and enjoy it. This auction is not over LHO has not limited their hand yet and might even beconsidering inviting slam when you suddenly give them a much better and safer way to acheive a superb MP score. Of course if you feel you need a top to win the event u probably will not get that topdefending 3n so under those circumstances a gambling bid might be the way to gobut you need to virtually certain you need a top.
manudude03
I chose to try 4H. The good news is it only went -2. The bad news was the opponents were in the wrong strain in the first place :( [hv=pc=n&s=st653hjdakq42cqt7&w=s87ha93djt87ck863&n=sak9h854d93caj942&e=sqj42hkqt762d65c5&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1dp3n4hppdppp]399|300[/hv]
P_Marlowe
The main point against a 4H bid is your spade holding, and the fact, that you are on lead. If you hit partner with some heart support, you will have established hearts, with the lead, and you have the spades as an entry. If you dont hit partner with support, 4H will easily go -3, which is more than their game. With kind regardsMarlowe
lalldonn
Sorry I don't say this to be hard on you but it's my true feelings and I think it's important. Acting here other than pass is just terrible. Your partner is probably more likely to have a singleton heart than what he had. You need something so specific to not go down too much AND have them be making, like long hearts and spades opposite without the heart ace. And even then, -300 for win 3 or 4? This is totally the wrong kind of shot in the dark. Even W/R I think it's terrible.
