vodkagirl Posted July 28, 2012 Report Share Posted July 28, 2012 Hi guys, Where do Walsh Relays end up? Do you end up in a slam in the suit that responder has shown or do you end up in 6N as a rule? For those of you who do not play Walsh Relays please see. I am thinking of taking them up but it is a lot of work for my memory and they still seem to wrong side the contract. Responder is first to bid the club suit, if that is the focus, only when the suit is broken. Thus, responder has more controls outside. If Diamonds are trump, then wrong-siding is more likely, but then many of those times it doesn't matter anyway. estimating a wrong-side "half the time" is quite an overbid, considering all the times it ends in Notrump, plus the above. Phil Posted July 29, 2012 Report Share Posted July 29, 2012 True, it's not half the time. It's probably more. When responder bids clubs with the bad suit slam try its wrong sided. Responder has already wrong sided all diamond slams by bidding 2♦ initially. Still, even though responder is playing it, wrong siding is less of a concern, since responder has a pretty good hand anyway. Only when responder has a good suit in clubs is it right sided. Also, over a weak NT I would think making Responder declare would be rightsiding! My initial reaction to this scheme is that it is something of a waste of a useful bidding sequence. The information about the top 3 honours in Responder's suit can be found out in other ways. Distributional information tends to be far more important to discover at a low level.
