Mbodell
3♦ for me. I'll raise 3♥ to 4 and raise 3♠ to 3nt.
akhare
3♦ seems easy enough...there must be catch B-)...
MrAce
I think anything except than 3♦ is very imaginative :)
the hog
3D. The second ever unanimous poll on these fora?
dake50
My partner already opened his 4+H with 10 points. That's about it for our game chances.3D scoring better than 3C-X? Doubt it.I Double. Partner may cringe and scramble, but this is highly likely our shot for a big score with no game likely. Some just to not be UNANIMOUS. the hog
So what is the story? Why was this posted? 3D is 99% unanimous. Was it a UI situation?
benlessard
When I was asked ive said that I think both 3D and X are ok, however most expert here (Montreal) bid 3D. partner hand was xxxxKxxxxxxKx A very unlucky layout for 3D. Losing important imps in Philadelphia. As long as responder is going to bid 4C with all 5/4,4/5 and 5/5 in the majors (wich is the best way to play IMO) I think doubling has a lot going for it. dave_w
I think anything except than 3♦ is very imaginative :) Double isn't as crazy as most people make out. Over spade bids you bid Diamonds showing a flexible hand. It doesn't show a strong one suited hand, that's what a jump to 4D or 5D shows. If partner jumps to 4S then we know we want to play a game - maybe 5D isn't the game we want to play - but it's the one we are getting to. I wouldn't double (I don't think it's quite strong enough), but I wouldn't be so fast in denouncing it.

But i am not quite sure this is available for everyone due to leaping michaels or similar variations. But i agree that ruling out the DBL the way i did was overstatement/mistake/or whatever you want to call it. :)
aguahombre
A very unlucky layout for 3D. Losing important imps in Philadelphia. Losing Imps to whom? If it is IMP Pairs, I doubt you lost IMPs to any pair in contention. In a K.O., if the other player bid something other than 3D you figure to beat that team anyway. Maybe it blew a short swiss match to an inferior team.

It may be that the 3♣ call was not chosen at all tables.
