michaelpag
This is probably not the place to raise this issue, but why is the GIB convention card so relatively complex? The system is much more complex than I have ever encountered in a IN game at national tournaments or among the average players at open games in various clubs around New York. It certainly discourages me from us the robots to practice and improve. Michael P. Miller
cloa513
One page is complex?. Its primitive- they should be using a bidding tree where each bid opens up the possible options and their descriptions- then you read the parts you are interested in. stevenagy
I think OP means: why is GIB's system full of gadgets which are likely unfamiliar for a beginner (and to add your embellishment, why are they so poorly outlined)? Frankly, there's a few I wish I could ask it not to play sometimes. Some of the conventions it uses tend to alter meanings of other bids 1-2 levels away, which aren't described well pretty much anywhere I've seen. Is there a tutorial on how to play with GIB? It'd be nice to have a primer on the system and pit-falls to be aware of for new players. I know it would've helped me.
cloa513
Beginners should really study/familiarise/review bridge dictionaries for those terms as they are common conventions. Naturally a named convention used by someone isn't necessarily going to be exactly the same as the definition but its a start. They should give lots more information on GIB conventions but are too lazy to do so probably ever. GIB isn't really for beginners since you need to recognise its strange bidding on occasion and its play is nothing to model your play on- really its for intermediates+. Funny, I think OP means "why doesn't GIB play SAYC instead of 2/1?"
