Michaels cue bids follow ups

Recommended Posts

If the bidding starts (1) 2 (3) where the 3 is a pre-emptive raise, what are the meanings of 4th hands bids (eg X, 3NT, 4m, 4 etc)

Similarly, if the bidding starts (1) 2 (2NT) where 2NT is high card raise to at least 3 based on 4 trumps, what do 4th hand's bids mean (eg X, 3m, 3, 3NT, or Pass followed by bidding on the next round).

Any differences if the opening and cue bid are in ?

(1H)-2H-(3H)-?

  •
  • DBL = gotcha

  • 3 = non-forcing. Michaels bidder with monster can bid again

  • 3NT = to play

  • 4 = pass/correct to your minor... overcaller wiht monster can bid more

  • 4 odd pass/correct... opener can pass only if diamonds is his minor... with club, this is GF

  • 4 = cue bid forcing

  • 4 to play

  • 5 = pass correct of overcaller minor

(1H)-2H-(2NT)-?

  • Pass = ok, i got nothing
  • DBL =
  • 3/3 = lead director* may have spade support or support for other minor
  • 3 = game try despite their value showing bid
  • 3 = non-forcing
  • 3NT = suggesting sacrafice in 5 of openers minor or 4
  • 4 = pass/correct to your minor... not suggesting save
  • 4 odd pass/correct... opener can pass only if diamonds is his minor... with club, he has to bid on.
  • 4 = ask partner to bid 4
  • 4 to play
  • 5 = pass correct of overcaller minor

DBL = gotcha

3♠ = non-forcing. Michaels bidder with monster can bid again

3NT = to play

4♣ = pass/correct to your minor... overcaller wiht monster can bid more

4♦ odd pass/correct... opener can pass only if diamonds is his minor... with club, this is GF

4♥ = cue bid forcing

4♠ to play

5♣ = pass correct of overcaller minor

I agree with all of these apart from 3N. Do you really want to play 3NT after an opening and raise? 4S is a weaker raise and 3N is a good raise to 4.

There are not really many hands I can construct where 3N is going to be the right contract, Ben.

Maybe this is one:

x

Axx

AKQJxxx

Qxx

But how likely is this?

This is NOT the one. Holding this, I would try a slam.

3NT should guarantees 2 stoppers in , 2-4-3-3 (or something like this) and honors in both minors.
