Spades again

Pass playing disciplined 2nd seat. It doesn't have 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5.

But it does have 4 of the top 8. One of the problems with playing overly-disciplined weak 2s (and passing those which don't quite make the grade) is that when you come in on the second round partner doesn't have much idea exactly why you decided not to open in the first place. Your spades might be too weak, or you might have a 4 card major on the side, or 2 Aces, or whatever other feature you consider to be a flaw. So you have frequently lost the ability to get the first blow in in the auction, without gaining that much by the extra definition (as even when you do get to open your weak 2, partner's response is often not really helped by the knowledge that you have a pure weak 2).

If only we had an opening bid that showed 6 decent spades and less than a 1 opening. Perhaps ken could come up with something esoteric to help out here.

lol yes. What is the point of having weak 2 on the card (or multi if that is your style) if you aren't going to use it on this hand nonvulnerable?

And mike777, KJ tight is such a big negative that I don't think this is close to a one level opener.

2 or alert the opps that you are NEVER max for any of your bids. The notion that this is not good enough is for people that are never seen without an umbrella, just in case.

I would still open 2 if playing intermediate (10-14) though.

Too good for 2 by our methods, I'd open 1, my partner might pass.

So in your partnership we have a 1S opening or a possible pass. There is no in-between hand. If this is the case it sounds like your system has major inconsistencies. (pun intended).

Don't you mean 9-14? Anyway this hand with stiff KJ is not even worth 9.

There are compensating values in the good distribution.

Nevertheless opening this hand 1 and partner responding with a game forcing 2 just feels sick.
