  1. 1. Your bid?

3 is enough for me. It is nice sometimes to have something in reserve. Since my direct bids over opponents' preempts are sound, partner will strain to do something with any sort of reasonable values. I just hope he can figure out that as little as the A and the Q (or three small) is enough for me to make 3NT (technically, that is not enough - the opps could lead clubs and establish 5 tricks before I get 9. But I am assuming that I am getting a heart lead).

Of course, he could have some significant values and we could have no play for 9 tricks. For example - QJTx Qx xx KQJTx. Even if the diamonds run, a heart lead should beat 3NT easily (4 might have some play on these cards).

It's between a sane 3 and a gambling 3nt.

I have had full discussion with my regular pard on continuation bidding in the context that a 3nt bid shows this hand. Similar to a gambling 3nt in 3rd or 4th chair.

I wouldn't try it in an unfamiliar partnership though.

if p were a passed hand I would hazard a 3n bid but when p is unlimited the 3n bid

might get us into all kinds of trouble we just dont need. P have little sense of humor

when they have 16 count and we have ummm overbid by so much. When p is a passed

hand we do not have such worries and at favorable even going down 3/4 no bid deal since

the preeempt will normally make it quite difficult for passed p to ever find a 3n bid.

I love this suit so I will try double followed by 3. It may be overbidding a little but at least I can accept signoffs with a clear conscience.

You are WAY overbidding. When we have to bid a suit at the 3-level, this is closer to a MINIMUM than a MAXIMUM. Besides, what are you going to do if they pre-emptively raise to 3 and partner expects 4 spades, or they jump right to 4? 3 is my bid - I would expect 2-4 more HCP for a 3NT bid here than what the hand has.

I agree with 3 but you are WAY exagerating. How is this closer to a minimum than a maximum? Wouldn't you still bid 3 without the king of hearts? If your spades weren't AQx instead of Kxx wouldn't you clearly be too good for 3? Come on.
