Playing normal 2/1 w/ strong nt your hand isn't quite enough to open in second seat. Should you come in from sixth seat, and if so, how? Statto
Partner didn't act, and the ♠ suit is a bit rubbish. I voted pass as 1st instinct, but now I want to X which is take-out. Oh well, too late now. The intermediates and prime cards in this hand are pretty good; I would have opened 1♠ and not have this problem. awm
My first instinct is double. Obviously it could be a disaster... and it may depend a bit on who's sitting in the different seats (is LHO known for opening 4♥ on good hands, do they play namyats or similar, how aggressive is partner in these situations, etc). Still, double has a lot of ways to win. I wouldn't bid 4♠ (the other option is Pass).
lalldonn
I'm sure overall it's right to double and it's not close.
mike777
x as usual with a tough hand. btw would open 1s not pass.
billw55
East's pass bothers me a little, because it means west could have a good hand rather than a normal preempt. Still, pass would risk being on the wrong side of a double vulnerable game swing. That feels like too much.

lalldonn
Just so I'm contributing, I feel much better about doubling since I'm a passed hand so partner won't make the wrong assumption. I have great defense for a passed hand too since partner's most common action is passing it out. What I meant by it's right "overall" is that it obviously could go wrong but I'm sure it's a favorite. I would double if the clubs were AQxx, probably not AJxx but I wouldn't be surprised if Joe Boo would.
gszes
x as usual with a tough hand. btw would open 1s not pass. while i would not have opened 1s one of the big advantages of opening this hand 1sis that if it had gone p 1s 4h p p i would pass. having passed my shape is too darn good to pass and my defense (for a passed hand) is pretty good. IMO x
Fluffy
double, I am not sure if 4♠ or pass is the distant second best option.
Mbodell
At the table action: So at the table I X. When we didn't end up in a good spot (see hand 4) a teammate said that he has come around to bidding 4♠ with hands like this, and thought that was the better call, but did think it was close enough to being poll worthy. I didn't really think much of 4♠ at the time, because I thought my hand was too weak and the suit too bad to insist on spades. But as I thought about it more, the fact that I didn't open or preempt with this hand should mean that partner shouldn't play me for just spades, and should be able to pull with a minor oriented hand, so I thought 4♠ did have more appeal than I had first considered. Looks like the poll does prefer X. At the other table they were playing strong club I believe and opened my hand 1♠ and got to 4♠=. 4♥X would have been down 2. We ended up in 5♦X-1.
