Here's why 2♠ is atrocious: 1. Your are r/w which is the high rent district for doubled penalties. 2. Your suit sucks. Not only are you missing the intermediate honors, but you have the Ace which is a trick. And you have the ♥Q. Would you be at all surprised to go for 800 when 4♥ was being set? Have never tried a simple overcall out of fright, because I just had to do something and had way below the expected strength. But, maybe others have good experiences from doing that.
