DrTodd13
Foobar and I (DrTodd) could play our forcing pass system called Dejeuner. Several people here has seen us in action and we play it every weekday so we are well practiced. Not sure you want to be using pairs that are playing a new system for the second or third time. luke warm
Not sure you want to be using pairs that are playing a new system for the second or third time. that's entirely up to the rest of you... this certainly describes us, and you won't hurt my feelings a bit if you'd rather go with established/practiced pairs
scoob
frankly i think watching a system and/or it's lack of practice go completely awry is half of the fun.

I agree with Dr. Todd Watching players self destruct isn't particularly excitingPersonally, I'd find it most interesting to pit a couple of light opening systems against two sounder systems, but perfectly happy to play against whatever... LOL ... i'm sure it is fun for you to watch someone else go awry heheh i don't think we'd go *completely* awry, but then i don't have a lot of pride... as long as the bottom pair isn't taken out and tortured, it should be ok from an objective point of view, i've seen plenty of established pairs self destruct, often on numerous occasions.. of course if it does happen at least nobody can say it's cuz they were unfamiliar with their system... bad luck, maybe
scoob
well, i've never witnessed it happen to anyone but myself and llammas - but it always makes me laugh when it happens to us *shrug*

EarlPurple
Perhaps we should set the date and time and then work out who can play at that time? How about Sunday 12 December? Now we'll have to work out the time.

hrothgar
more importantly, I don't that watching a bunch of people flail arround with constant bidding misunderstandings makes ofr interesting bridge who exactly are you talking about? and what defenses do you recommend against moscito? I was talking about everyone quite frankly As for suggested defenses, I've always felt that it was assine that people need to provide defenses to their own openings. 1. Players often have blind spots regarding flaws with their pet methods2. Players have little/no incentive to develop good defenses Either way, you aren't going to get what you want. I'll note in passing that in Sweden, the National Bridge Organization prepares dictionaries of suggested defenses to a wide variety of methods which they make freely available to all members... With this said and done I recommend keeping it very simple versus the transfer opening. For example, over the 1♥ opening, I'd recommend: X = "Standard" 1♥ overcall1♠ = However you normally treat a Takeout Double of a canape style 1♠ opeing1NT+ = As if we had opened 1♠ You really need a good defense versus the 2♦ and 2♥ openingsOver 2♦ I'd recommend some like the following: (2♦) - 4♦ = 5+ Hearts and 5+ Spades(2♦) - 4♣ = 5+ Clubs, 5+ in either major, game forcing values(2♦) - 3NT = To play, typically based on a running suit(2♦) - 3♠ = 17-19 HCP, strong 6 card suit(2♦) - 3♥ = 17-19 HCP, strong 6 card suit(2♦) - 3♦ = 17+ HCP, weak in Diamonds, treat as a takeout double(2♦) - 3♣ = 5+ CLubs, ~ 12-16 HCP(2♦) - 2NT = 5+ Hearts, ~ 12-16 HCP(2♦) - 2♠ = 5+ Spades, ~ 12-16 HCP(2♦) - 2♥ = Takeout double of Diamonds, ~ 12-16 HCP (2♦) - X = 15+ HCP, balanced or semi balancedHxx, AQ, AK or any 4 DiamondsWith significant extra strength, may hold xxx in DiamondsDouble establishes a forcing pass at the 2 levelDouble followed by 2♠/2NT/3♣ do not promise extrasDouble followed by 3♦+ promises extras (2♦) - X - (2♥) - X = Penalty oriented, usually at least Hxx in Hearts(2♦) - X - (2♥) - P - (P) - 2♠ = 4+ Spades, 15-17 HCP(2♦) - X - (2♥) - P - (P) - 2NT = 15-17 Balanced, can't penalize them (2♦) - X - (P - 2NT = Puppet to 3♣

keylime
We'll play our strong diamond light opening system for this, assuming the laptop and wi-fi router's online by that date. We rather not play the "usual"; she said something to the effect of "I need some excitement in my life." :)
EarlPurple
CET is 6 hours ahead of EST so it looks like the best time would be around: 11am PST (Los Angeles)2pm EST (New York)7pm GMT (London)8pm CET (Berlin)9pm EET (Athens) Can I assume that time and I hope everyone will be there. Maybe a few volunteer subs (now wouldn't that be exciting?)
