How can I manage to get a X on 4♠?Maybe a shy bid of 3 spades conceals my distributional strength best. My bid is 3♠. Later 4 and even 5♠. What I do if opps bid 6♣ ??? If pard bids 4S ill try keycard. no special masterminding plan to get Xed in something...It looks like the opps have done all their bidding. If pard likes his diamond holding, and also has an ace 6S should be a good contract (even if pard has JTx or JTxx the finesse will very likely be on). If this pulls out a 4D bid from pard, I can trot out "old black" ;) A direct 4D self-preemts us out of space for pard's diamond cue :P If opps bid 4C over 3D, we're still quite ok. If they bid 5C, the 4D bid is helpful in any case. Heck a direct 4D can even be taken as a cue rather than a real 5-card suit, so in this aspect, 3D is better. As I'm going to be on lead against 5♣, 4♦ cannot be lead-directing so it must be a fit-showing jump. The big questions are:- If partner passes their 5♣ do I accept it and also pass.
