The problem with 2♥ is that if the auction goes 2♥-4♥, 4♠ is kickback so you're in trouble (this was considered in the post mortem). If you play 4N is always Blackwood, you might be able to do this (depends if you're going to take 4♠ as a cue), but if you play kickback you definitely can't.

 

No. It's simple. Don't bid 4H as responder. 3H is forcing, lebensohl-then-3H is invitational. No need to jump to 4H opposite what might be a 3-card suit.

I'd bid 3d and would not consider any number of NT because that doesn't describe my hand.

pretty precise, no stiff or void andlong d, no reverse, deny 4s. deny two suited minor hand.

 

we play a pretty refined version of Baron over this now.

 

 

so 3d jump rebid can show a stiff or void.

 

jump rebids in minors can be very wide ranging.

A lot of people don't play Leb over reverses, particularly in my experience the people who tend to invent suits to reverse into. The only 2 people who might find 2♥ in Norfolk would certainly not play Leb over it. Also isn't 4♥ a 5-5 hand (with enough to play game) if you play this scheme, with Leb/4♥ a bit better (or worse if you agree it the other way round) ?

Maybe there is something wrong with considering 4S as kickback over 4H when responder can reverse with 3 spades and 3 hearts lol. To me that is like considering 3C X p 4H p 4S as kickback, so you can't double with a good hand and spades! If 4S can be a natural place to play and a heart fit is not established, of course it's not kickback.

I thought this was interesting as all can go horribly wrong.

 

2N isn't really going to enjoy Jxxxx, KQxx, x, xxx for example, 3♦ isn't going to enjoy Qxxxx, xxx, Ax, xxx where 4♠ and 5♦ aren't bad.

 

For us, it whould have been easy, with the 1N rebid 15-bad 19 we don't pass this very often, so 1N is clearly best and despite my quack laden Qxxxx, Kxxx, J, J109, we should have been fine in 4♠, but he rebid 3♦ and we weren't (our 3♦ is limited by failure to rebid 2N(GF unbal)-3♣(semi forced)-3♦(one suited ♦), so I was expecting something more like Jx, Axx, AKQxxx, Qx with a diamond suit that will have a decent chance of playing for at most one loser opposite a small singleton and no good spade fit).

 

 

 

playing reverse flannery over a minor suit opening can help a bit with these 5s 4h hands.

Well we don't reverse into less than 4 card suits so don't have this problem, if you do, you can't play 4♠ as kickback.

 

Also the auction you give, it's pretty rare as 3♣-4♠ can be pretty big so you need to be enormous to double first, but I believe we would play that one as natural anyway.
