V vs. NV, 2nd seat, pass to you.

Acol 2 if that is available. If not, then 2 if partner plays a method where 2 is either strong balance, acol two in a major, or true game force with 2 reply as instant negative response. Lacking that option, then 1.

If I read Inquiry's post correctly it seems he suggests that this is not a 2C opener in standard bridge. I strongly disagree.

After the 1H opening the auction is quite interesting. We want to be in a grand if partner has 2 aces, so it would be nice if 4NT was blackwood for hearts. But is it? I'd say that it would sooner be for diamonds, but I actually think it is competitive, looking for the best strain.

Not knowing how to ask for aces I would bid 5S followed by 6H. Hopefully partner will know to bid 7 with two aces.

I would bid 4N RKC for diamonds. If partner shows me:

0/3 or 1/4 I'll bid 5.

If he shows me 2 I will bid 6.

Here's where it gets fun:

If I pull to 5 partner will go to 6 with 3. With the A I think he also can work out what's up.

After 5 or 5, I think partner also might bid an inspired 7 with both minor aces.

My last 2000 was a long time ago and was all the matchpoints as we took it out of 1N.

Was 2 FG or F1 ?

I think you should make a forcing pass over 6. It's a very standard policy to say that a forcing pass that invites partner to bid at the 7 level shows first round control in opps suit.

Partner will prob bid 7 as his suit is solid, and you can bid 7N being pretty sure it makes if either suit runs.

I'd open 2 here as any hand with J and a stiff heart makes game decent and any 4333 with A makes a slam. If there's a flat hand that might pass out 1 that makes a slam opposite is one of my criteria for a 2 opener.

Among the choices I would open 2. However my preference is 1 Precision. Sometimes the extra space can be helpful. If EW bid similarly, it won't make much difference.

After opening 1 and hearing partner's 2 freebid, I am sure 7-level is on our radar screen. Agree with earlier post that forcin pass of 6 is appropriate...

What Phil said.

The LTC brigade will say this is an 11-trick hand, though I would agree with them here that it is worth a 2 opener.

This was with a partner I have played with once or twice before, so no agreement, F1+

How can I bid 7 holding Kx?

Sure, you have a 2C opener by most peoples definition, but that is not the only consideration when you open 2C. Here you are red vs white with two singletons. There is a huge chance that this is coming back to you in 4S. Will you be happier having opened 1H or 2C if it goes 1H 1S ? 4S, or 2C 2S ? 4S? I prefer the first auction. So I will open 1H. Make it white vs red, and now 2C looks a lot more tempting.

Because any sensible arrangement says that south's forcing pass (which I recommended above) over 6 shows first round control, so north doesn't need to worry about spades.

I see thanks, I misread your response.
