Now I wil have some comments on your topic.

 

I think maybe there are three kinds of metheds according to different bidding style rules.

 

1. "up the line" principle as bidding rule,

 

2. By-Pass Diamonds with a Weak Hand

 

3.walsh style principle as bidding rule

now it is time that we think why opener can not rebid 1♠?

 

after opp bid 1H,what is the meanings of rebid 1♠ by opener? What is 1♠ rebidding's promise?

 

Now if opener rebid i♠,it promise 4♠+5♣ with unbelanced hand?

 

I think opener rebid 1♠ will deny minimum limted with balanced hand, and the worse pattern of his hand is 4243 without heart stopper.Usually it may be 5♣+4♠.

 

So I have some resons to guess that opener shape of hand may be 3235 ,12-14p without heart stopper.

My conclusion : This double by responder is penalty.

Here hand is a notable exception to the rule about opponents bidding and agreeing a suit.

I actually mean that it was not a preference after they are forced to pick one of the suits or a bid that comes out from a take out double.
