GIB lets itself get shutout on this sequence, losing a partial swing. Too high requirement to bid 3h (I think 14-17)? I've always bid 3h rather freely on minimum openers on this sequence. Usually LAW protected even if you find yourself overbid,

Do you have stats showing this range is better? I'm just saying that I think most people bid 3h more freely than this, compete with a fit, and that by failing to do so GIB is setting itself up to sell out to 2s way too easily, and losing partial swings. Here it can make 4h but let opps make 2 by misdefending, and if East doesn't have c9 2s

Given 15-17 NT opening, GIB going to not have 14-17 range that often, and I think it need to compete on a lot of the 12-13 total point hands. With this range normally you don't want to go to 3H without being pushed in uncontested auction, but contested auction when both side have fit I think you must compete, even when sometimes you are going down. Competing works out well if you can make 3h, if you push them to 3s and they go down, and break even at IMP (big win MP) if go down when 2s making. It only work out badly if 2s going down when 3h also down, or if your bid cause partner overbid later.

Arguably one should split the range by putting some hands through 2nt (or double?), but GIB doesn't play that fancy stuff, and on the whole I think bidding > passing. I think should bid 4h 17+, and 3h 12-16.
