Unbalanced hand jumps to 6NT for no good reason?

I was annoyed at this hand in the tourney I just did where my "expert" partner failed to make a 6x bid that I thought was like impossible to fail. I looked at the rest of the people that bid this hand and noticed that on one of them, GIB made a very unusual bid. Not only did it have diamond support and a splinter to go with it, but that splinter was a very bad thing to bid 6NT with. Noticed how bad 6NT fails with the likely club lead. It shouldn't bid 6NT with that club suit. What's also bad is that 6 and 6 are great bids with these hands and 6NT prevents them from being bid.

I wonder whether GIB actually made that 6NT bid, or if a human dunce made the bid then ran after the 7...

Edit: There were 5 GIBs in the 10 tables when Board 4 scores were reported, but that number had grown to 10 GIBs by the end of Board 5, so it appears that several players ran.

I thought if a human made the bid then I thought their name would still show up there even if they didn't finish the hand. I could be wrong, but when I play outside of tournies anyway, whoever makes the first bid in a seat gets their name attached to the entire rest of the hand, even if they leave.

You are right. As you know, I made the first pass with the South hand but then left the table: http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands/hands.php?traveller=9887-1337570881-54267322&username=AyunuS
