Matchpoints.

2/1. 2 is the default rebid after 2/1 with no other options, so does not show 6. 3 rebid would have shown extras.

3nt

I dont play these methods but understand many do....

my best guess is 3nt here.

fwiw would have rebid 2nt last round.

and 3nt over 3d.

3c would not have shown extras but prefer it show more than this.

btw 2d for me shows a really good hand, not random 12

I play these methods, so a simple obvious 3NT. But on the other hand, I would have passed initially.

Passing initially with 5 nice spades, 11 HCP and 5-5 shape? Well, if your partner is aware you can have a hand this good when you pass, I guess that works - but people who pass this would be few and far between, especially these days.

As for the original question, I don't see what other choice we have than 3NT. I take it partner would have supported spades / shown a 4-card club suit by now.

With a minimum ( or sub-minimum ) 5-5 in the blacks, you can open 1C ( with prior agreement on follow-ups ):

1C - 1 red ( 1D )

1S - other red! ( 2H! ) = 4th suit GF

??

.. 2S = minimum 5-5

.. 3S jump = 5s/6c, a hand worthy of reverse strength and shape .

After 2S and knowing about your 2 suits, your partner may well place the contract in 3NT.

If he bids 3D, you bid 3NT .

Hi,

Since pass is not an option, passing a forcing bid is only

vindicated by one thing ... being right.

#1 3S showes a 6 carder

#2 4C bypasses 3NT, should be a cue agreeing diamonds

So your options are 3H and 3NT.

3NT protects your king, and 3H may or may not show heart values,

so 3NT it is.

With kind regards

Marlowe

PS: For that matter, those thoughs you could and should have before

you decided to open.

It should not come as a suprise, that partner has long diamonds.

I agree with the 5 nice spades. But the hearts do not have full value, and the second suit is one I would not be happy to introduce into the bidding, and does not have much trick-taking potential. I see no problem with passing initially, and will of course invite or bid game if partner opens, and if the opposition open then I am happy to overcall in spades.

Of course, if the 5 clubs ware headed by the KJ, and hearts were xx, then it is a different story.
