Jstroke
I have a study resource that had this hand in the RKBW section. What do you think? You hold J64 void AJ8 KQ9xxxx The bidding 1H p 2C p 2S p ?? I don't like any form of BW that I play here, because I dont know where I'm headed and have reservations about how well my cards will fit with partner. Partner suggests 4 or fewer minor suit cards: Diamonds are not going to be trump. How can I tell partner about my hand? What do I tell first shape or strength? How can I ask about partners hand? I really want to know about the black suits. If Ingberman were an option would 2N be a good underbid? Playing SAYC, how often will partner pass 3C? If so would 3D get me in trouble? Is 3D is on the menu4 if 2/1? Thanks
Codo
B)I don`t no your system, but in mine, partner reversed and this is a game forcing after my 2/1 answer. So no partner shall pass my "obvious" 3 Club bid.2 NT will be wrong in any case, natural or as ingberman.Natural, because I would show a balanced hand.As ingberman because I have a real nice hand if we would find a fit.I totally agree, that any form of Blackwood will be silly here and now. Why should we jump to 4 NT with no clear goal where we want to go?
inquiry
Codo gave an excellent answer. If you are playing 2/1 game force, you have an easy 3 Club rebid. Bear in mind that many people do no play 2S as showing extra value after a two-over-one response. If playing normal SAYC, the reverse surely shows extra values, and is now game force. So once again you simply bid 3 Clubs. What do you tell your partner first, stregnth verus shape? The answer is clear. Shape -- especially since you are already in game force situation. How can you ask about your partner's hand? You can't best is to bid your hand. Over 3CLUBS, your partner will make a descriptive rebid. if he bids 3SPADES - he is probably 5-6 in the majors, and you can make a slam try by bidding 4D. Partner will probably take that as a SPADE FIT now that he has shown five and showing a control. Since you didn't know that you had a spade fit until partner rebid them, 3C would not have been an advanced cue-bid. If he rebids 3H olr 3D, you are going to have to rebid 3NT. If he bids 4C, you will cue-bid 4D (BLACKWOOD with a void is not going to be useful). If partner cue's 4H, you will bid 5C placing the SPOT LIGHT squarely on partner's spade holding. With good spade controls, partner will bid on. I dont think that lebehnshol over reverses is ever an option after a two-over one intial response. So 2NT would not be Ingberman. I would never bid 3D over 2S. First, it doesn't show what you have (good, long clubs), and it ask about a diamond stopper for notrump (when in fact you have likely two stoppers in your own hand). Finally for blackwood. It really isn't an option immediately over 2S, and with a heart void, if you are not playing some form of exclusion blackwood that can discrimenate between a delayed heart raise and and exclusion blackwood bid, you should never bid blackwood on this hand at all. Jstroke
Orla asked about showing the void as responder. I think the following is pretty standard in most flavors. 1. The void is not an A so don't add to actual number. Many times when you just answer with the true count. 2. 6 of a suit below the trump suit is 1A + void in suit bid. 3. 5N is 2 Aces and a void. I have never seen anyone ask for the void suit, but 6C asks in some cases. I think I would bid 7 of our trump.
