IMPs. Your partnership tends to open all balanced 12s and most distributional 11s, but not balanced 11s. You do play lebensohl if it makes a difference...

Sort of a humdrum hand but I'm curious to hear your opinions ... thanks in advance.

With a passed partner, prospects for game are not good especially since you might expect reasonable values for opponent's weak 2 with red pockets. If partner can balance, then you will probably get to a decent partscore.

But partner is allowed to have very few points for the initial pass, so there needs to be a little caution about competing at IMPs lest you walk into a bloodbath.

I mean you should just double on these hands. Ax is a huge holding. I am 100% sure its winning bridge to double on these hands at both imps and MP. I mean you could have game on and partner unable to back into the auction because he has 3 or 4 hearts: Kxxx Axxx xxx Kx is a totally routine hand where game is extremely good and there is no way at all partner can do anything if you pass.

Bidding 3C instead of double is bad for two reasons. First this hand is not really about clubs, and diluting the integrity of your overcalls can be a huge problem if the next bid is 4H and partner has to decide about dble 5c and 4s. Secondly, if you bid 3C it is very hard for partner to get spades into the auction. Suppose now he holds Kxxx xxx Kxx Kxx, is he meant to bid his spade suit? I mean i expect he will bid 3H, and in this case you will get to spades, but another day you will have a heart stop and a spade suit and have to guess whether partner would prefer to hear about the stop or the spades.

Isn't there a worrying possibility partner will bid diamonds at the five-level, if it continues X-(4H) to him?

He will have 6 for that (I can't think of a hand where he hasn't). Of course that doesn't guarantee it will make for a good contract but anyway I think you are overestimating the likelihood of this. It is a much worse and more common scenario to have 2H-p-p-p :(

Double. I'll deal with diamonds if it comes up.

I'll pass diamonds if it comes up. I think this is really an easy X though. We are white and unlikely to go for a number, and unlikely to set them much in 2, may as well compete for the part score.
