It is actually a good technique to use when you don't want a debate about the methods, and only want to know if we would like to be in slam. I think (with no scientific basis for this) the slam is odds against on a trump lead, but with the odds on a minor suit lead, so it would depend how I bid it whether I'd want to be in it.
