about gazzilli

Recommended Posts

I play stardard 2/1 with 15-17nt and forcing 1nt,I want to add gazzilli to my system,but some problem here:

1H 1NT

2C 2D

2H 2S

2H=5+H-3+C,11-16hcp,2S=GF,relay

my question is

I have a hand like this when I as a resp: S XXX H QX D KQXX C KXXX

I should bid 2S to GF? or just 2H PASS(if opener had 5332,11-12hcp)?,or bid 2NT inv?

anyone could answer,thx,I need your suggestion

btw for those of us who dont know gazilli back up:

1) what is 2c

2) what is 2d

you tell us:

2h=11-16 5h and 3c

2s=random gf. tell me more.... so responser has 14+ not the hand you show us....

playing basic 2/1 then:

1h=1nt=2c=2h(very big range but non force.)

There are different versions of Gazzilli out there. However, it is pretty standard that in this auction:

1 is natural, with a wide range of strength

1NT is a "normal" 1NT response, forcing or semi-forcing or not forcing (whatever you usually play).

2 is either natural (4+, or 3+ if 1NT was forcing) or any very strong hand (typical is 17+ for this, although some play lighter)

2 is a relay that shows enough for game opposite the strong option and may deny certain hand types (i.e. a 3-card limit raise)

2 shows a minimum opener with natural clubs, and is not forcing

With that out of the way, it doesn't really make sense for 2 to be game forcing. One doesn't typically respond 1NT to 1M with a game-forcing hand; even if 1NT is "forcing" the vast majority of game forces will make a 2/1 bid.

This 2 bid should show an invitational hand with a minor here (either a club fit, or a long diamond suit). This splits the range so bidding 3m over 2 won't be a full 8-12 or so (which is too wide for opener to make good decisions when he has some 14-count). Obviously other agreements are possible.

It was propably mentioned in other treads, but Gazzilli shines if you exclude minimum 5332 from your 1M openings, either by playing 12-14NT with 5M or 14-16NT with non-forcing 1NT response, so after 1M-1NT all 11-13 (IF you open 5332 11 1M) get passed out in 1NT. I played both ways and it workded well, especially 12-14NT with possible 5M is IMPs winner (not sure MP's winner also)

when 14-16 nt with non-F 1NT reponse,how response with this hands below(for example)

1 OPEN

his pd have this hand:

xxx

x

AQJxxx

Qxx

the opener will pass with 5332,11-13hcp,but the 1NT isn't the best contract that makes me confused
