Bid this

Recommended Posts

The 3 bid set a game force in my style and pard should cue the control if it shows 1st OR 2nd round control (leads to slam) but some play it gaurantees 1st.

The alternative is to redeouble instead of 4 but since pard passed that 100% forcing bid, I'm scared.

The bidding is fine as is through 3 .

I also think that after the 3 bid a game force applies. After the 2 passes after the Dbl, East should bid 3 which should show a very good 5 s or 6 s.

If West retreats to 4 , East can still raise to 5 . On this hand though, West should bid 4 .

I can only assume from the text that West passed 4. I can imagine that you can make an argument that 4 should be non-forcing based on, "we tried for 3N, but you didn't have a heart stopper, so I want to play 4", but this is a bad way to play. There needs to be a way that East can force and support clubs and this is the only way playing standard methods.

West can bid 3 over the double, and then East can try 4. West should appreciate his great trump and primes, and cooperate with slam with 4.

Should be in 4 Spades making 5 or 6.

How should bidding go?

Should be in 6 by W which needs no more than spades 3-2 or some 4-1s.

E should XX 3 to show he's serious and has first round heart control, W bids 3 to show Hx (would have XXd or bid 2 with 3 depending on method), E bids 4, W bids 4 whether playing kickback or not.

If 4 is not KB, the auction proceeds 4-4-4N-5(1/4)-6, you know partner has 3 kings, and almost certainly 6 clubs as he hasn't shown the hand as balanced, better hope he has the Q or they behave.

If 4 is KB, it goes 4(0/3)-5(signoff opposite 0)-5(3+K)-6

So if you play support XX, and I think many do here, then opener has already denied 3S, and should bid 3S over 3H.

Assuming that you do not play support XX. Then passing 3hx makes perfect sense. For me easts choices now are 3S and 3N. I would probably plump for 3N on the hand, as there seems a decent chance you are taking tricks in clubs, and if I bid 3S then partner might find it very tough to bid 3N himself given our heart holding.

A third consideration is whether you play 1c-2S as a WJS. If you so, so that 2S over 2c is already invitational, then bidding 3S would already be GF. In that case you should have an agreement about which one shows the good suit, and which one the poor suit. If bidding 3S now after 3H its much more attractive.

A fourth consideration is whether you have an agreement about XX here. I do not, but I can imagine several good treatments, which I might take up. Pass= doubleton spade seems like a reasonable treatment, for example. I know at least one pair who play this XX as "half a stop" which is quite good too.
