How to push to game?

Recommended Posts

I have no idea, I'd start with 3D, caring not if partner thinks that is fourth suit forcing or asking for a stopper or what, then maybe try 3NT unless partner tries 3H. I'm thinking long and hard about just punting 4H, but starting with 3D is 'free' so lets do that and see what he comes back with. 6C seems a long way away but I'll be better positioned after 3D.

This is a deal where you wish you where playing roman jump overcalls or another two suited approach that would have let partner bid 2S the first time if he was 5/5. I think the lack of double means that he's probably 5-1-3-4 or 5-1-2-5

What is all this stuff about 2 non forcing? It is obviously forcing for bd71´.

3 is wideranging, as they obviously do not play good/bad 2 NT (not that you should...).

I would go with 3 .

After 3 I would cuebid 4.

After 3 (which would be my default, I try 4 if this is 100 % forcing (it would be for me).

If partner bids 3 NT, I leave it in.

After 4 I hope to find a way to raise clubs slammish without committing us to slam. I would try 4 .

We are playing mps, so if we are staying in game, we may well prefer to be in hearts than in clubs.

However, we don't need to make a committal call now. It is always nice when our cheapest bid is also the most useful.

We have an easy 3 call. Partner will bid 3 with any doubleton, and we have found our trump fit (tho level is as yet unknown). He will bid 3 with 5-1-3-4, as an example, and should bid 4 with 1 heart and 5 clubs, and we will now have to weigh slam in clubs v game in hearts.

One factor that militates in favour of slam is that when partner has 5 clubs and a stiff heart, he can almost certainly establish the heart suit by taking a ruffing finesse through opener.

I am going to drive to slam in clubs (should partner bid 4), since I can't place partner with a K high spade suit and a Q high club suit on this auction: KQJxx x xx QJxxx should, imo, bid 2 rather than 3.

Over a 3 preference, I am going to bid a quiet 4. I expect to be off a heart trick and a black trick, and don't think I have enough 5-level safety to risk the 5-level at mps, but it is close.

I can't comment because I do not understand this method of 2 forcing. Can partner have KTxxx xx xx AQxx? Or does 3 show something like AKxxx x xx AQxxx?

What about KQJxx x Qxx QJxx?

No, if 2 is forcing, pd can still not have hand #1. Those who play this type of new suit at 2 level as forcing, usually plays the responses to it as in 2/1;

1M-2x

2M (can be only 5 with hands that doesnt wanna make an expensive bid)

Not sure if thats a style OP is using though.

So to answer your questin, overcaller must have a decent hand or shape to bid at 3 level a new suit.

If 2 is forcing, then the only bid that partner has to limit his hand is 2 . That wouldn't necessarily show extra length, just less than opening values. Since that didn't happen, game and possibly slam should be in the picture. In a pinch, partner's 3 bid might be more a feature, than an actual suit.

3 stands out as the bid that gives partner the chance to best describe his hand.
