han
Double. Too strong to pass, too sane to bid 4NT.
Phil
Double and then pull the inevitable 4♠ to 5♣ to show the flexible hand type. No poll choice for the double? Really?

aguahombre
In that case, I choose "edited".
Codo
Any idea what the difference is between X and 4 NT and X and 5 ♣? Does the first show longer diamonds, a stronger hand or a place to play?
MrAce
Good hand to post To me the problem is not whether to DBL or not, of course i DBL for the reasons Han already said, but what to do when pd bids expected 4♠ ? To let him play or try to find a fit at 5 level ? I personally will pass if pd bids 4♠. I see our slam chances slim to none. Heart Ace and ruff is a strong possibility to start with. Even if that doesnt happen i need pd to have AK of ♠ most of the time, even in 5 minor. And even if we are lucky to find AK/AQ♠+ a 3 or 4 card fit in the minors we still need ♣ Q to be taken care of when RHO is likely the short one in this suit. And even if we find AK/AQ♠+Qxx ♣ and survived the heart ace and heart continuation, 4th round ♦ may become a problem. AKxxxxxxxxQxx I am aware there are hands where pd can bid 4♠ with only 4 cards, but he was supposed to pass with most balanced hands. He may have 4♠+longer minor which passing 4♠ is a definite loser but if thats the case i can always win postmortem by saying "preempts win usually" :P
ggwhiz
I hope pard passes my double. I feel doomed if they don't.
xcurt
Pass, take the plus (ducks).

I see our slam chances slim to none. When you double and then bid 5♣, that's not a slam try: it just says you don't have the right shape to pass 4♠. We don't have to consider how good slam is, only how good each game is.
Phil
Pass, take the plus (ducks). I saw Nickell do this a few years ago with the same pattern and maybe a King less, but it was over a 3♠ preempt.

I just dont believe 5m is a better game even if we have a fit for the reasons i already wrote.
broze
Just to clarify, what kinds of hands should the 4NT overcall be used for? Any minor two-suiter without the HCP power to penalise 4♥?
