squealydan
When I try to recommend posts, I always get a message saying "Action failed : you have reached your quota of positive votes for the day". My quota is presumably zero?

It's certainly less than 100 - I think I was able to do it when I hit 50.

I kind of understand this. But if a newbie comes along, asks a question, and really appreciates a response, I think they should be able to recommend it to let the world know this is the sort of the response they were looking for. Oh, and a more informative message to folk like me who try to hit the recommend button would be nice...
Antrax
It was originally zero, but then someone found a way to abuse it, so a higher minimum was set.
aguahombre
It was originally zero, but then someone found a way to abuse it, so a higher minimum was set.Which they abused as well, with their posts to reach quota ;)

jjbrr
I'm sure now that the novelty of the vote system has worn off, the minimum requirement could be removed, particularly if our goal is to drive traffic to the novice forum. Perhaps the mods could remove the requirement and not tell anyone so those who might abuse it are none the wiser for a while? :)
gnasher
What about this idea: each negative vote you make costs you one of your own reputation points? Then people would only downvote posts that they really felt strongly about. You should be able to downvote one of your own posts free of charge, of course. squealydan
They could just reply saying so. Of course. But I thought the point of these little +/- buttons was to generate a rating for each poster so future readers in other threads would know to trust the advice given. Unless it is Justin or Mikeh, you will have to read the words of the advice...and whether it applies to your bidding style, to determine whether to trust the advice given. Gerardo
Creating an account is too easy. If the minimum is 0, would be too easy to create N accounts for N votes, so a minimum of posts are needed.
allen333
I read. I enjoy. I rarely post. I would like to be able to let posters know that what they are posting is appreciated. I suspect I am not alone. This rule is just silly. And I suspect the responses I get from this will be a clear indication of why many of us are lurkers.
