fuburules3
I frequently find it very hard to untangle whether or not 3NT can be bid when playing with GIB. For instance: http://tinyurl.com/7fda4q7 Over 3C I would like to bid 3S asking partner to bid 3NT if he can stop the suit. However, 3S shows a big club raise (I'm no expert, so maybe this is better, but it doesn't feel better). GIB's 3S now shows a stopper instead of denying one and we end up wrong siding 3NT. It seems like there are a lot of sequences like this with GIB (where opps bid one suit and bidding the suit shows a stopper). On a side note, why is 2H game forcing? I didn't realize free bids at the two level were game forcing in GIB.

North should just double for no fit and that is a winner with good play you take down 2S by at least 2. After a heart lead, then lead spades and hopefully North wins in a diamonds return and leads more spades if EW tries to set up diamonds to ruff so you take 4 diamonds, 2 clubs, 2 hearts. I understand that 3NT is bad period, but it would certainly be better if it were played by north. I just posted this one because it came up today and struck me as particularly bad (that we ended up playing with the lead coming through Kx). pigpenz
sometimes the bidding gets tenuous and you never know what GIB has or doesnt have somtimesso making the field bid 3NT is about all you can do when GIB wont bid 3NT with a stopper,LOL usually he will bid 3NT with no stopper...but your example is what always happens to meour side has game values they overcall and GIB with stopper cue bids at 3 level instead of bidding 3NT......I myself just wish he would bid 3NT instead of bidding 3♠. But its interesting that again GIB fails to immediately set the contract by cashing the first 5 tricks. Is he always afraid of rectifying the count for a squeeze for down one?
