RHO is in 3 and has to make 2 more tricks for his contract.

I played this hand good (sorry to say this myself ) playing other suits in correct sequence to get here. (LHO does not have high cards anymore - except for J - and no trumps).

Partner played A and I ruffed that and returned Q. But my partner failed to overtake it. :(

How is this play called when declarer ruffs an own winner to shorten his trumps and does this have the same name in defense?

Can I now go out and tell everybody that I have made this play or does it not count if my partner didn't overtake the Q? B-)

It is a Grand Coup on defense.

A Grand Coup is a Trump Coup where you shorten your own trump holding by ruffing a winner. To do this on defense is quite rare.

I have had a partner fail to realize that we had a squeeze on declarer on defense. It is very frustrating to reach a pretty position and partner does not cooperate.
