Playing the 5-2 over the 5-4 fit

I think you're going to have a hard time getting to 6 -- GIB doesn't think its hand is strong enough opposite 1NT.

The thing to realize is that it can't really have 6 , because it would have used a Texas transfer instead of Jacoby. It rebid the because of simulations, it thought 4H in the 5-2 fit would be easier than 3NT (the book bid).

If GIB isn't capable of getting to 6 when, say, opener loves his hand, why have it bid 3 at all? It just gives the opponents more information.

I can understand GIB not having slam interest, but if I choose to bid a slam anyway I think I should be able to play 6 when we have an established 5-4 fit (and have established that we don't have a heart fit). I don't think we lose all that much giving up 6 as a cue . . .

If GIB is 6-4 in a major and a minor, it will never pursue a 4-4 minor suit fit? That is good to know I guess (is this the "standard" way to bid?).

I think it is reasonable to bid 3 here as it easily could be right to play 5 or 4 on the 5-2 fit instead of 3NT (well maybe not given how GIB defends 3NT . . .). Despite initial objections, I think I'm fine with 4 as suggesting a place to play with no slam interest.

Yeah, GIB has a blind spot in that regard. Once someone bids Blackwood in a particular suit, it just assumes that's the agreed trump suit and won't let you override it. I thought we fixed the problem last year where it would pull 6NT to 7 of the trump suit, but I think someone recently reported a case of this, too.

I asked GIB what it would bid with x AK9xxx Qx AKxx -- it makes a Texas transfer and then either cue bids 5 or bids Blackwood.

I suspect human players would be split among bidding like GIB and going slower, trying to find a possible club fit, with the better players going the latter route.

In the particular sequence, if GIB did rebid anything else then 4, other suit or including 3NT, the 4NT will be over clubs. So GIB knows the approved suit is clubs, just repeating hearts makes lengths different.

Problem is the impression which North left for 6+ in . Pretending to be 6+ is also possible to change blackwood to be over not . Could be due agreement.
