A strong 3-suiter

I would really like to know whether pard had 2NT available for bad, or whether it would have just been a minor suit scramble.

Ours is a minor suit competitive, and so 3m might very well be a big stretch. Ah, heck. I still bid 4S. Maybe she can work it out to bid slam with a couple helpful things outside her bad six-bagger.

Maybe, I should rethink that, however. Maybe she can't work it out with a stiff heart and the club jack. Stiff heart and 3 small clubs? Ah, re heck. 6D

I agree with the above post, at first I was thinking obv 4S, now I'm thinking maybe just bidding 6. I am not sure which is better tbh, I think there are definitely hands that partner will sign off over 4S where 6 is good, but I do not know if this is >50 % of the time.

The other problem is against normal opps, 6D will get a spade lead more often than 4S, so we'd rather bid 6D tactically (against good opps this probably does not apply).

If we had some agreements that 4N over 4S would not be keycard that would make me much happier about bidding that.

At the table I think I would just bid 4S and pass 5D, I am wimpy in these spots.

I chose 4, and partner bid 5. The full hand:

Making 12 tricks. My plan had been to bid 6 if partner could show the A, and be satisfied with 5 otherwise. South suggested that he would have bid 6 with my hand over 3.

I had bid up to 5 and had been lucky with that.

After the (obvious?) trump lead, you need clubs three three with the ace with north (not a lock anyway) or some other smaller chances to succeed.
