JLOGIC
Nil = white right? I would double white and pass red. Part of me wants to say "I am protecting my SQ if they declare!" and part of me wants to say "gotta get in there white white at MP!"
the hog
Matchpoints, Nil. P (1S) ??? Q3 J96 K53 AQ742 Your choice? Pass; this hand is a pile of rubbish.

gszes
this type of discussion happens a lot with little/noagreement. I am for the passing camp as oppositea passed hand there is little chance of game and it might be better to back into the bidding whenthe opps have shown limited power. If we lose the auction an x here makes the play practicallydouble dummy for the opps (not usually a good thing for us).
WesleyC
Nil at Matchpoints, I don't hate the double, however it wasn't a success at the table. Partner held [xx x JT9xx KJ9xx] and auction continued: P (1S) X (4S)4NT... Eventually leading to 5Cx -3 for -500. No big deal at IMPs where the field was scoring 480 but it didn't win us any matchpoints. Wes.
Codo
But with the diamond finesse working you had been -300, quite a good score at imps and mps...
MrAce
Passed or unpassed partner i dont overcall at 2 level with 5332 hands unless i have a very good reason to. And these reasons can be a very decent suit, or too strong to pass. Imo this hand doesnt qualify for any of these.
kenrexford
Good hand for R.U.N.T., where you overcall 1NT with weak takeout shapes (or possibly extreme powerhouse hands somewhat equivalent to the old-school power cuebid) but double with values takeouts. mikeh
It would never have occured to me to do anything other than pass...my suspicion is that there may be an age thing going on here....old players like me pass, younger and more optimistic players double. I do like the notion of promoting my spade Q, however....I saw this idea written about in the MSC several years ago and it made sense then and now. But that heart holding....makes me shudder, given the rest of the foot I hold.
